mRNA Broad-Spectrum Poxvirus Vaccine

It is a new-generation preventive vaccine formulated using quadrivalent orthopoxvirus antigens as the encoding antigens for mRNA and the mRNA-LNP (Lipid Nanoparticle) technology platform. It is intended for preventing monkeypox in individuals aged 18 years and above. In preclinical studies, compared with the Tiantan strain (an attenuated live smallpox vaccine used in China), the vaccine under development induces significantly higher levels of monkeypox-neutralizing antibodies—specifically, the neutralizing antibodies induced are 36 times those of the high-dose group of the Tiantan vaccine strain. Furthermore, it exhibits broad-spectrum cross-reactivity against multiple orthopoxvirus antigens. Compared with the approved replication-defective monkeypox vaccines overseas, our mRNA monkeypox vaccine under development demonstrates excellent immunogenicity, making it a more suitable option for immunocompromised populations (e.g., HIV-positive individuals). The production of toxicology batches and three GMP batches has been completed, and safety evaluation as well as evaluation of neutralizing protective efficacy in monkeys have been initiated. It is planned to submit Investigational New Drug (IND) applications to the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) of China and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Q4 2025.
